I worked at Linspire as an intern while going to school at UCSD. It was convenient because it was so close to school. This is truly a start up venture. You get to see everyone in the company. Every week, the CEO briefs the whole company on a status update. This was cool to see. You can get to see what the direction of the company. Interestingly even though this is a Linux company, the workers are not the typical Linux hackers. The median age i saw was 25-30s. They usually do fun company activities: sports, lunch, etc. This was pretty cool. They were a friendly group. My manager was especially helpful. But there were things that I didn't like there. I didn't like it because the tasks given to interns were poor. Sometimes just grunt work. The pay wasn't that great... I didn't learn much so if you do choose to work there as an intern, I wouldn't recommend staying there for a long time.
